Seventy year old William Harrison was interviewed by Martin Bashir on NBC's Nightline last night. Below is a snippet from Nightline's website:
Harrison remains entirely unambiguous when it comes to the fundamental issues at stake when considering to terminate a pregnancy. "I consider the mother's life to be much more important than that little blob of tissue, and that's all it is at that time," he said.
I challenged him on this point, saying that this little blob to which he refers has by 20 days a beating heart and by 40 days a brain that's directing the functions of all the major organs.
The doctor conceded to me that all of that is true — and that he's comfortable with killing this notion of life.
But elsewhere in our discussion, Harrison also told me he believes the women whose fetuses he aborts are themselves "born again," because young women who thought their lives were ruined by an unwanted pregnancy have regained control of their lives.
"The Abortionist of Arkansas" … and neither the doctor nor his patients are ashamed of that title.
The first political campaign I worked on was John Barry Baker for Circuit Judge. John Barry had defended some protesters at Harrison's abortion mill pro bono. During the trial Baker called Harrison to the stand and made him look silly. A man who kills babies for a living is not above holding a grudge.
The election was close. Right at the end Harrison came out in the newspapers and told a bald-faced lie about John Baker. He spread it all around Fayetteville. Baker lost 52-48. He won Madison County, he won Springdale, but he lost Fayetteville big enough to cost him the election.
Afterwards he saw Harrison and said, "that was a pretty effective lie you told about me". Harrison laughed and said all was fair in love, war, and politics.
A man who kills babies for a living is not above lying either. I can't think of much he is not above doing.
Also, he got full of himself enough to run for Congress once in the Democratic primary of about five candidates. He is the only person I know of to lose to Dan Ivy!
not this sicko again!
there was an article about him in the LA Times a couple of months ago. It makes the comments listed in Bashir's interview notes totally mild ni comparison.
Great article! Thanks.
Thanks for interesting article.
